A brief history of AFECA

Since its founding in 2005, AFECA has grown from a regional alliance into a leading voice for Asia’s MICE industry. Over the years, we have united economies, empowered professionals, and shaped the business events landscape through collaboration, recognition, and innovation. 2004

Founding assembly held in Singapore, attended by representatives from China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore & Taiwan

2005

AFECA officially registered with Singapore Registry of Societies

2015

Launch of annual AFECA Asian Awards and Asia MICE Youth Challenge to recognise excellence and foster future talent

2016

Membership expansion to 28 national associations and 98 member companies across 18 countries (approx. 135 total)

2018

AsiaWorld‑Expo wins Outstanding Venue Award at inaugural AFECA Asian Awards in South Korea

2021

Membership grows to over 150 organisations across 19 economies

2023

Bangkok hosts first in-person AGM since pandemic, introduces public‑private A20 Business Events Forum, key themes: regional cooperation and sustainability

2024

Inaugural AFECA Convention held in Kuala Lumpur with 300 delegates, first A20 Forum, conclave Youth Challenge with participants from 13 economies

2025

Celebration of 20 years since founding, entering new phase under President Dato’ Vincent Lim (2025–2027)
