Explosion in Thailand: Situation Update

On 13 AUGUST 2016 at 22.00 hrs.

The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB is pleased to report that the situation is normal in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand as everyday life continues. All hotels, venues, attractions, shopping malls are attracting large numbers of international visitors and local residents, determined to make the most of long weekend.

Thai people and international visitors are celebrating the 84th Birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit on 12 August, also the National Mother’s Day. Life in Bangkok and all other areas of Thailand continues as per normal. Business Events venues and activities as well as businesses in Bangkok and other provinces are not affected, and continue as usual. There is an increased security presence at all major attractions and shopping areas as well as in airports and train stations, to ensure the safety of business travellers and locals.

All planned business events are still going ahead and the message is that Thailand is very much open to business. The international tourist organisation UNWTO has expressed confidence in the safety of Thailand as a tourist and business destination and will be hosting World Tourism Day and The ASEAN Conference on MICE in Bangkok during 27-28 September.

Confirming its leadership position as preferred business events destination in Asia, Thailand will welcome a Pro Health group with 5,500 business travellers in September. The IT&CM Asia and CTW Asia-Pacific 2016, the world’s only double bill event will also be going ahead as planned.
As the government’s flagship body for the MICE sector, TCEB wants to reassure all business travellers that their safety is the highest priority and that everything is being done to ensure the people behind the recent attacks are apprehended.

TCEB is monitoring and assessing the business events situation and will be providing further details as the situation develops. In the meantime, TCEB would like to encourage business travellers to obtain information from various sources to get a balanced understanding about the reality on the ground in Thailand, so that they can plan their business trips accordingly.
